For 14 years fans of Pixar’s Incredibles have wondered who the movie’s fashion maven Edna Mode was based on. While some have guessed that she’s a composite of fashion icons like Edith Head or Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo, the film’s director Brad Bird revealed to The Post last year that it was actually his mother, Evelyn Devnor.
The costume designer’s style is sleek and tailored, with clean silhouettes and sophisticated details. Bird and his team drew inspiration from women who tended to embody the character’s personalities, including Mary Tyler Moore, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. And of course, he took his mom’s personality into consideration as well.
