How to Create a Custom Channel Icon
A custom URL (a.k.a. vanity URL or personal URL) is basically a way in which you can condense your actual web URL into something easy to remember and read. For instance, normally, a Google Plus URL would look something like this. This is an official page of Google Inc. The main goal for the owners of these custom URLs is to make sure that visitors are able to find the information they are looking for, even if they have already used search engines to find it.
The use of a custom URL also has other advantages over the use of the main Google page. One example of an advantage is that instead of having the “Gmail” option is available only when someone types “Google” into a search engine, the “Google+ Personalized Search” feature will be available as well. When someone does type “Google” into their search engine, they will be taken to the Google+ page instead of to a generic website or channel. If they already know their search keywords, then they won’t need to go through the trouble of typing the exact phrase again; they will simply click on the + button next to the word “Google” to find whatever it is they were looking for.
If you do not want to click advanced settings again when someone clicks to visit your channel, you can change your custom URL by clicking on” Settings” and then clicking “Channel”. This will bring up the “channel settings” link which will take you to the basic page for your custom channel icon. Once there, you will need to click on “Change”. Here, you will be able to type in your custom url and/or vanity URL and/or your main web URL. Changing your custom URL or your vanity URL will cause your entire channel to switch to reflect your new settings, so make sure you don’t make any changes that will cause confusion.
