Halloween is here and fraternal twins Wren and Reynold are going trick or treating. They are joined by their friend Lucy. But things get out of hand when one of them gets kidnapped by a monster!
How to play as the siblings:
To start, choose which of the two twins you want to play as. There are several areas to explore and a variety of quests.
Each area features a variety of eerie, Halloween-themed houses with glowing jack-o’-lanterns, ghoulish gargoyles and more. Each house is also equipped with a doorbell that lets you talk to neighbors.
Collect costumes:
To get a costume, simply head to a house in the neighborhood and collect a candy from the doorstep. Then you’ll find an item chest in the house.
Use the items to complete each costume and get a unique weapon that can be used in combat. Battles in Costume Quest are timing-based, but if you land a perfect shot, the baddies aren’t too hard to beat.
Battle cards:
For each costume, there are battle cards that give each character a special ability. These can be bought from Shady, or earned as rewards in combat.
How to use them:
The special abilities in battle are pretty fun, and some of the attacks are pretty powerful. But the game’s health and navigation systems need a lot of work to keep the action interesting. The combat can become repetitive after a while. Luckily, Double Fine is focusing on making the game look better. There are new lighting effects, improved vistas and surprisingly nice looking water in some areas.
