Costume kingdom is a Halloween themed turn based action-adventure game set in an open world and played from a third person perspective. The player takes on the role of “Rain” a young child on a quest to beat the Apex Cup while unknowingly saving Halloween. Discover a vast cast of amusing characters and Hallowmon brought to life throughout the world as you fight dynamic and unique boss battles which are sure to keep players on the edge of their seat!
In addition to battles the player can explore an extensive list of activities such as Trick or Treating, Dynamic Platforming sections, Fishing, Building your own HallowZoo and more. Each one of these offers players a different experience to help them discover the secrets of the kingdom. Costume Kingdom also features a collection of unique abilities that the player can unlock as they complete various in-game tasks.
For example, the Turtairy costume allows the player to pull off a double jump that opens up certain areas of the map. There are also some costumes that make it impossible to progress the story without owning or equipping them, encouraging players to explore the entire map.
Despite the homages to other games, Costume Kingdom is a janky and derivative title that fails to live up to the quality of any of its antecedents. There is still fun to be had in working through the cheesy final boss and obtaining the platinum trophy, though.
