Costume Designer for Jingle Jangle

When I was a child, I was mesmerized by the classic films like Mary Poppins, Caractacus Potts, and Willy Wonka. These whimsical, larger-than-life movie protagonists kindled my imagination and set a high standard for the way I wanted to be as an adult.

Jingle Jangle is a musical fantasy film that takes inspiration from the old-school Christmas movies of our childhoods, while offering a much more diverse approach to storytelling. It’s Netflix’s first live-action original musical, written and directed by David E. Talbert, and produced by John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Company.

The film stars Forest Whitaker as legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle, whose fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (newcomer Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to help him rediscover the spirit of the season.

The costume design for this film is by Rita Ryack, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She worked closely with the production team to make sure everything looked the part, from the costumes and makeup to the cinematography and music.

Actor-singer Ricky Martin also makes an appearance, voicing Don Juan Diego, a devious 12-inch matador who is the nemesis of Jeronicus. The cast also includes Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Sharon Rose, Madalen Mills and Kieron Dyer.
